Ko Papatuanuku te matua o te tangata” “Papatuanuku is the parent of the human race

Papatuanuku is the foundation. She is the earth, the whenua (land), the mother of all things. She is the body in which we draw our sustenance from. She is crucial to our existence.

In the Creation story of the world, Ranginui (Sky Father) and Papatuanuku were fixed in an eternal embrace. Darkness lay all around. Their children were tired of living this way so they made a decission to seperate their parents in order for light to fill the world. Their efforts paid off. After Tane finally pushed them apart, the many Atua seized this moment to explore and create offspring of their own. These were to become the many types and species of trees, birds, insects, sea life, winds, water … and us. Here, Papatuanuku reaches out to all corners of this earth. Her life giving veins are like roots which seep and penetrate into every living being … connecting us to her always.

Giclee – printed on premium museum quality photoprahic fine art paper; 100% cotton; acid, lignin and chlorine free; does not contain any optical brightners; pigment inks used. Unframed. Each print is personally signed and numbered.
