Iwi - Ngati Kahungunu - Te Aitanga a Mahaki

My artworks to date have come from a feeling, an involvement in whakaruruhau. This is a special place for me, a haven, a sanctuary where I can unfold ideas, designs, colour, light.

All of my paintings are sketched first, the process from drawing to preparation of canvas to the initial first strokes on the canvas leads me to this concept of whakaruruhau.

Any little aspect of this concept that I can convey through a painting to someone else really makes me feel that I have achieved something worthwhile. (whakaruruhau – a state of mind based on relaxation and openness to new ideas and learning)
