Karearea karu homiromiro, Karearea te kaitiaki o te pataka o Uenuku.
Sharp sighted Karearea, the guardian of Uenuku’s food store.
This is the hardest piece of kauri I have carved to date. It is very dense and highly resinous. It literally ‘rung’ when being worked. A beautiful piece of antique kauri collected it circa 1950’s. The original block of wood was estimated to be 2,000 years old; very hard wood, but an absolute pleasure to carve.
