Conrad works in his Tauranga based studio and specialises in working with New Zealand Kauri Gum. Conrad is highly skilled at achieving a museum grade polish
on this special material, his pieces are shown in the Kauri gum museum for his finishing skills. Kauri Gum

Kauri gum or amber is the fossilised sap of the giant native Kauri tree. The sap would drip into the ground r leach from fallen trees, sometimes capturing
ancient insects and would harden and fossilise over hundreds or thousands of years in the ground.
The term “amber” is reserved for the oldest and hardest examples of this material. Kauri amber is very lightweight so is easy to wear even big pieces, it is
however not as hard as pounamu (jade) or bone so it is not suitable to wear when playing contact sports or swimming etc.
