The waka (canoe) series are statements primarily of my south pacific heritage, and the journey my work has taken me on in recent years. In my work I consider the contrast between the interior and exterior. The outer surface of the glass has become a vehicle by which to explore the rising image within the form. The vessel also explores the relationship between past and present, which in essence is the nature of the continual journey and exploration of life.
I have come to this ‘work’ with a 20 year history in the medium of glass; and over that time I have developed a distinctive style, which is a statement of ‘who I am’ and ‘where I come from’. Over the last 20 years I have worked as a practising artist and also as a tutor in different areas of glass production. In my work I aim for a strong sense of expression and dialogue, but also for continuing technical excellence.
