Tuigamala ‘Andy’ Tauafiafi

Common Origins is an exhibition that brings together a group of like-minded artists exploring our common ancestry as indigenous peoples of Oceania.
Not only is there a commonality in our ancestral origins, but also in our art, language and other cultural practices. There is also the common plight shared by all indigenous cultures of Oceania to both preserve and revitalize their cultures in today’s society.
The Hawaiian proverb “A’ohe hananui Ka Alu’ ia” translated means “united we stand divided we fall” which is a great foundation for the work in this exhibition. As Pacific peoples of a common origin, we can only be stronger as one; One Waka but many paddles.
