David’s artistic inspiration is heavily influenced by three pivotal concepts. Te Ao Māori, where the Māori World view with its creation legends, infuses his work with timeless spirituality. The Japanese notion of Wabi Sabi, finding beauty in everything and where the world is perfectly imperfect. Additionally, mid-century design, minimalist elegance, and the simplicity of the design aesthetic. All my work comes from my ancestors speaking through as I am a product of their wairua.

All of David’s pieces are raku fired. Raku is a low firing technique 1000 Degrees C originating in Asia and Japan being at the forefront for the last 700 years
