There is the large waka of the heavens whose nets gather in the whetu (the eyes of the tipuna). Some of these stars fall through the net and become scattered. Below are the patterns of the whenua (land). If you are looking at the whenua and night sky from a height (such as the Takaka Hill or Pikikirunga) the sky has the whetu scattered across it while the lights from the land form regular and irregular patterns from the whare and street lights.
