Darin Gordine runs a boutique leather goods company called Kiriawa Aotearoa. His business was established in 1998 and is based in Wellington.
Darin individually cuts, dyes, embellishes, ages, and hand finishes each Kiriawa item personally. Subtle ageing techniques can be applied to give the leather pieces an old world or antique look, even though they are brand new.
‘Kiri’ is the Maori word for skin, bark or leather. ‘Awa’ is the Maori word for a river, a furrow or a groove. By joining the two together, Kiriawa becomes a new word for decorated or embossed leather.
